About Lieutenant Colonel Alcides “AL” Lugo

Lieutenant Colonel Alcides “AL” Lugo, Jr hails from Ponce, Puerto Rico, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the United States Army May 1986 from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. He attended the Armor Officer Basic Course in January 1987 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He holds a Master Degree in Education in the field of Occupation, Training & Development from the University of Louisville, Kentucky and has completed Post- Graduate/Doctoral level work in Foreign International Studies in Human Rights from Oracle University in Bogotá, Columbia. He also holds an undergraduate Degree in Criminal Justice in the field of Forensic Science from Jacksonville State University, in Jacksonville, Alabama. AL has over 80 months of company command time, serving as a Basic Combat Training Company Commander of A-2/26 Infantry at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Tank Company Commander of B-2/ 67 Armor, and Commander of Headquarters’ of Headquarters Company of 2/67 Armor Battalion in Friedberg, Germany. He has also commanded an Observer Controller Team for Cavalry & Mortar Operations at Fort Knox, Kentucky 1st Readiness Training Brigade. He is a graduate of the resident Command General Staff Officer College at the prestigious Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at Fort Benning, Georgia. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Advance Course, Fort Knox, Kentucky, the Air and Ground Operations School at Tindal, Air Force Base, Florida, the 120MM Infantry Mortar Transition Course, Fort Benning, Georgia and the Scout Platoon Leaders Course (SPLC), Fort Knox, Kentucky and the coveted Army Senior Leadership Force Management College, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Other assignments include Battalion Assistant Operations Officer S-3, Friedberg, Germany, Battalion Maintenance Officer, Garlstadt, Germany, Brigade Operations Officer, Owensboro, Kentucky, Mobilization and Training Integrator, Fort Benning, Georgia. Senior Maneuver Team Member of a Collection, Analysis, and Assistance Team (CAAT) for Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. United States Army Southern Command Desk Officer for the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army G-3/5/7 Washington DC (Pentagon). His final assignment was as the Team Chief, Team II, Force Development Planning Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army G-8, Washington, DC (Pentagon) responsible for new equipment fielding for deploying units assigned to Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom prior to their deployment or at their transition into the Theater of Operations.

Lieutenant Colonel Lugo’s Awards include the Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, The Order of Saint George, The National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, The Armed Forces Service Medal, The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, The Army Staff Badge, The German Armed Forces Military Physical Proficiency Badge, and the United States Army Physical Fitness Badge. LTC Lugo has completed four 26.2 mile marathons, Chicago, Disney and twice the Marine Marathon. He is married to the former Amy M. Zimmerman of Saint Mary’s, Pennsylvania for 24 years. Amy is the G-1 Sergeant Major for the United States Army Reserve Medical Command (ARMEDCOM) in Tampa, Florida. They have two wonderful daughters Amanda 19 a sophomore at College of Central Florida, and Alexis 16 a junior enrolled in the dual-enrollment college program at West Port High School. The Lugo’s reside in Ocala, Florida where “Mr.” Lugo assumed the position of Executive Director for the VFW Veterans Village located in Fort McCoy, Florida on 1 October 2008. Mr Lugo is a member of the Marion County Homeless Council Board, Former President of the Student Advisory Council at Howard Middle School, Lifetime Member of the VFW, Lifetime Member of the Military Officers Association of America, Fraternal Order of Police Associate Member Lodge # 145, Board member of The South Life Blood Bank that supplies blood for the Veterans Administration, Booster Club Member for West Port High School (WPHS) JROTC, President Student Advisory Council for WPHS, and sits on several other committees. Hobbies include Golf, Running, Weightlifting, Boxing and College Football “Scouts Out!”
